Central Park has started off the new calendar year with several events planned. The speech evaluation contest held on January the 30th, was both enjoyable and successful with two new members also competing. Congratulations to the contestants and especially the winner Julie Reeve who will go on to represent the club at the area contest. The prepared speech contest (international speech contest) will be held on 27th February. This is the key contest in the Toastmaster year. Contestants can aspire to the eventual goal of competing at the international speech contest in the US to be the world's top speaker. The executive for the 2006/07 year are: President Clinton Jones VP Education Marlene Krone VP Membership Julie Reeve VP Public Relations Rhonda Togipau Secretary Julie Park Treasurer Brian Johnson Sergeant at Arms John Van Doormaal Club Mentor Clinton Jones Their plan is to raise the Club’s success bar to the next notch as well as continue to encourage commitment and integrity of club members. At the same time promote Toastmasters to others who wish to improve their public speaking skills through the friendly learning environment of Central Park Toastmasters. This year we intend holding our club competitions as evening social events with partners invited. Come and enjoy the convivial atmosphere and have an evening of fun. The meal will be subsidised for members by the club. For 2006/2007 Central Park Toastmasters are aiming to again achieve the high President's Distinguished Status secured in the 2003/04 Toastmaster year. Club officer training is scheduled for this month - see Marlene about the dates and times for sessions suitable for you. Look out for the new newsletter/meeting report that secretary John will be producing in the near future. It will be great to have a news letter after a lull of nearly a year. |
